TNT
Samoyeds was established in 1989 after the marriage of Tom
and Toni Maurer. Tom, a transplanted Northeasterner devoted
to both sledding and showing, had already been in the breed
since the early '70s. He was also raising Basenjis at that
time. Toni's involvement with dogs dates from 1979. Before
her marriage to Tom, Toni put obedience titles on both
Belgian Sheepdog's and Siberian Husky's, and a champion
title on the Belgian.
The two Samoyeds that formed the foundation of the Maurers'
breeding program were acquired in 1989 and 1990 from Bob and
Wanda Krauss of K-Ways Samoyeds in Wisconsin. Since then,
the Krauss’s have been dear friends and mentors to the
Maurers. The Maurers regard them as the preeminent
authorities on the Samoyed breed, especially with respect to
structure.
Almost every kennel boasts one exceptional dog that has
distinguished itself either through serving as the focal
point of the breeding program, or by having excelled in the
conformation ring. The Maurer's first dog, BISS Ch. K-Way's
Star Dancer of TNT ("Star"), did both. His structure, type
and showmanship enabled him to rank in the "Top 10" for
three years running despite only limited showing and
advertising. And although he has been gone for several years
now, he is still deeply missed.
Looking to the future, the Maurers' plan to continue
breeding to better the breed, and to someday raise another
"Star." Their current breeding program along with their
excellent reputation will ensure a close contender in the
near future.
